Poker Night for Real Players

There is something about a poker night with the guys that you can’t really describe to someone who has never experienced it. Your girlfriend doesn’t understand, but she does not like poker, pizza, stogies and beer. I would say that she’s missing out. If you find yourself hosting a poker night, you need to make sure it is the best one that any of your friends have seen. How do we do that? You have much to learn, my apprentice.
The food is the center stage item. We all love beer and cards, but the food is almost always the real star. Anyone can order pizza, but how many guys can make a perfect hot wing? Start practicing and adding more classic, manly foods to the menu. You can also do a full wing night. Start with basic buffalo and then rotate through 3 or 4 different styles. If you are going to have a wing night, you should get a few cheap packs of cards that you can just throw out and use plastic poker chips that you can wash, rather than real money that will get greasy. Also, don’t play on a fabric covered poker table. That’s just a bad idea.

Get a keg of something worth drinking. It’s nice to have a well-stocked fridge full of beer, but there is nothing quite like drawing off a cold keg of high quality beer. Check out the local craft brewers and see what they can offer you in a ¼ barrel. If you want to go the full nine yards, I suggest getting a keg fridge and CO2 system. It’s not as expensive as you might assume and it’s the perfect way to serve beer to your buddies while impressing them. Drawing a perfectly chilled IPA from the tap in the living room after you win a hand, there is nothing quite like it.
